Client setting

Settings for the client are to access differently than the server for security policies. There is actually no GUI (Graphical User Interface) for client setting. There are only a few settings that might be used to alter the client application behaviour. The attributes are described below.

Server IP: Tells the client the address of the server application. Without a server application, running the client application will lockdown your client computer. It is necessary to set the correct address of the server machine (IP address). After installing the client application, when you run it, you will be prompted to provide the server IP address, please provide the correct IP address of the server machine when you are asked by the client.

You need to specify the server IP once in a life time, the client application will remember it next time you run it. In case you want to change the setting manually, see below.

Server port: Server port is the port that will be used in association with server IP for the client to connect to the server. You must specify the same server port as the server application is set to. The default is 9999 both for the server & the client. If you are not sure which port is being used by the server, see the server's setting section.

Note: If you are using a firewall on your client or in the network, you must allow the client to connect to the server through the firewall.

Server timeout: This is a period of time that the client application will wait to connect to the server for each connection attempt. The default is 20 seconds. If you are using a high speed LAN and you are confident enough that the connection takes less than the time specified to establish, you can alter the value to somewhat less amount. If you are not sure, don't change it.

Caution: Specifying a too less timeout will cause the client to fail frequently to connect to the server, especially on the WAN system.

Transparency: Specifying a transparency value will make the client locking screen or the background transparent, you can see the actual desktop through the lock system but the lock will remain the same. Windows 2000 & Windows XP only.

Prevent shutdown: You can instruct the client application to try to prevent a manual shutdown of the system. This feature may not work on some systems due to advanced power management profiles.

Auto start: This setting allows you to instruct the client application to automatically start with Windows each time you start your client machine. By default, this value is true.

Changing the settings manually:
Browse the folder where you have installed the CafeMan client application (typically 'C:\Program Files\CafeMan [CLIENT]\'). Here you will find a file named Client.INI, open the file using NotePad. The content of the file should look like similar to the following (execept the red part);

[Setting]
Server IP=127.0.0.1 (IP address of the machine the server application is running on)
Server Port=9999 (port number that the server is using to connect to the clients)
Connection time out=20 (in seconds)
Use transparent screen=0 (-1 = TRUE, 0 = FALSE)
Prevent local shutdown=-1 (-1 = TRUE, 0 = FALSE)
Auto start=-1 (-1 = TRUE, 0 = FALSE)

Now alter the required setting and save the file, then restart the client machine to take the changes effect.

Note: if the client application is already started & locked down your machine but you need to alter the settings, restart the machine & press F8 on Windows boot up time to start Windows in Safe mode then make the required changes & restart your machine again.
